An immersive journey through Indianapolis’ Roaring Twenties. Video walkthrough created using SketchUp to illustrate the plaza experience.
Traction Yards transports guests to the energy and optimism of 1920s Indianapolis, where Art Deco architecture, industrial rail history, and live entertainment come together to create a vibrant community district. Inspired by Indianapolis’ historic railcar industry and the role the railroads played in connecting people, the experience explores how the city’s past helped shape its future.
At the heart of Traction Yards is a railroad roundhouse inspired plaza. A welcoming gathering place where guests can experience seasonal festivals, live entertainment, local food, watch parties, and community events. Hidden discoveries that include a speakeasy, add an element of mystery and exploration.
The district is designed to feel active which encourages guests to explore, connect, and return throughout the year. More than a recreation of the past, Traction Yards celebrates the enduring spirit of Indianapolis, a place where people come together to celebrate, create memories, and build community.
Guests leave with a deeper connection to Indianapolis and an appreciation for how the city’s history continues to influence its future.
An animated introduction created entirely in SketchUp, showcasing my architectural design approach and creative transition into themed entertainment. The sequence uses 3D modeling, spatial composition, camera movement, and visual storytelling to introduce my design perspective and establish the narrative for my portfolio.
The animation demonstrates how I use architectural tools not only to document and visualize space, but also to create immersive experiences and communicate ideas through movement, atmosphere, and storytelling.
The Luminarium project explored the creation of an immersive walkthrough experience designed to guide guests through a series of environments connected by a shared story and sense of discovery. The experience uses architecture, lighting, sound, artifacts, and interactive moments to encourage guests to become active participants in the narrative rather than simply observe it.
At the center of the experience is the Lantern artifact, developed as a physical storytelling device and recurring visual element throughout the journey. More than a decorative prop, the lantern serves as a tangible connection between the guest and the world of Luminarium. Representing discovery, guidance, and the light that leads visitors through the unknown.
The lantern was developed in SketchUp, where its form, details, and components were designed and refined. The model was then 3D printed, assembled, and hand-painted. The process incorporated considerations of scale, materiality, lighting, craftsmanship, and how the artifact would function within the larger immersive environment.
